Just ten mares have been confirmed in the 2015 Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) final field, to be contested at Rosehill Gardens racecourse on Saturday afternoon.
Charging home to deny Steps In Time a third-straight victory in the race in 2014, trainer Chris Waller has confirmed Catkins in the 2015 Breeders’ Classic final field.
Finishing outside the places only twice in ten starts in 2014, Catkins followed-up her first-up Breeder’s Classic success with a victory in the Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) before placing a credible third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).
Returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) before running sixth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m), the Dubawi mare placed third in each of the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) most recently, and will be particularly difficult to beat this weekend.
Choosing to keep Calming Influence away from the races this weekend with a view towards other events, Waller is launch a two-pronged attack on the 2015 Breeders’ Classic after also confirming Arinosa in the final field.
Securing nine wins and six minor places from her 3 starts to date, Arinosa has not been seen at the races since failing to figure and fifth in the At Sea Handicap (1100m) on May 24th.
Having performed well in two trials leading up to her racing return, Waller is confident the daughter of Dash For Cash is more than capable of figuring in contention in Saturday’s Rosehill feature.
New Zealand import Marianne has joined the stables of Peter and Paul Snowden for the 2015 Autumn Carnival, and appears to be in exceptional condition leading into the Breeders’ Classic.
Finishing outside the top three only twice through her ten start career, Marianne was a standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival; finishing second in each of the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m), Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) before taking out the Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m) most notably on March 21st.
Allocated the slightly wide barrier 7, Marianne has been confirmed to be partnered by Larry Cassidy in the 2015 Breeders’ Classic.
Gai Waterhouse has been thrilled with the condition of Role Model ahead of her black type return and is confident of a competitive showing in the Breeders’ Classic.
Skipping the spring with a number of minor ailments, Role Model did not appear rusty when finishing a strong second to Mihiri in the James Boag’s Premium FM (1200m) at Randwick first-up on January 24th.
