Unlucky not to break through for a maiden Group 1 victory over 2014, trainer Chris Waller has nominated Catkins for a first-up title defence in the 2015 Breeders’ Classic.

Finishing outside the top three only a handful of times through his 27 start career so far, Catkins followed up her 2014 Breeders’ Classic triumph with victory in the Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) before placing third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).

Returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) on April 5th, the Dubawi mare was disappointing when placing sixth in the Group 1 Queen of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 19th.

Returning for success in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) before three minor place finishes in black type races, Catkins has reportedly taken well to her time in the paddock and subsequent return to work and is primed for 2015 Breeders’ Classic success.

Waller is set to launch a three-pronged attack on the 2015 Breeders’ Classic, having also included Arinosa and Calming Influence in nominations.

Failing to make much of an impact over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Arinosa was kept in the paddock over spring and has reportedly returned to work in exceptional condition.

Claiming five wins and as many minor places from her 13 starts so far, Calming Influence has more than earned a step up to black type company in the 2015 Breeders’ Classic; running third in a minor over 1200m first-up this time before placing second in the BLDG Engineering FM (1400m) and winning the George Watson BM90 (1400m) most recently.

Securing two positive results over a short spring campaign, trainer David Payne is confident Lillilburlero is capable of first-up success in the 2015 Breeders’ Classic.

Winning the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) first-up and placing third in the Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute (1200m) most notably over autumn, Lilliburlero ran third in the Group 3 Mumm Stakes (1100m) and fifth in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) through November, but will require a good barrier to perform well in the 2015 Breeders’ Classic.

Unlucky not to secure a black type win over her most recent preparation, Plucky Belle has been included in nominations for the 2015 Breeders’ Classic.

Running an agonizingly-close second when blocked for a run late in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) on March 20th, Plucky Belle placed fourth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) on April 19th before another close second in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m).

Taking out a strong Randwick trial on January 15th, Plucky Belle appears primed for a successful return in the Breeders’ Classic.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Breeders’ Classic is due to be completed and released on Wednesday.
