Neena Rock to Resume in 2015 Breeders’ Classic

January 29th, 2015

Neena Rock was a standout performer for trainer John Sargent over the 2014 Spring Carnival and has been set for a racing return in the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on February 7th.

Running on to finish a credible third in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) first-up on September 13th, Neena Rock continued to build in form and class in placing fourth in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) winning the Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) on October 11th, but failed to fire when placing a disappointing 14th in her major target, the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) most recently on November 1st.

Having reportedly taken well to her brief stint in the paddock and subsequent return to work, Sargent told Sky Racing HQ the daughter of Fastnet Rock will target the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships upon returning this season, and is confident the 2015 Breeders’ Classic figures as a perfect first point of call.

“She is coming up quicker than I thought and she is that well that I thought I would give her this trial and maybe one more,” Sargent said.

“She might kick-off in the Group 2 fillies and mare in early February at Rosehill.

“I will give her a run around on Thursday and that will tell us how she is, but she is obviously being aimed towards The Championships for the fillies and mares race.

“She had a nice break after Melbourne and she is really flying at the moment.

“I will keep the work up to her, but she is happy and that is the main thing.”

Claiming a total of five wins and seven minor places over her 18 start career to date, Neena Rock began her career under the guidance of New Zealand-based trainer Warren Bolton in late 2012; transferring to the care of Sargent following an unsuccessful appearance for seventeenth in the Group 1 Easter Handicap (1600m) at Ellerslie during the 2014 autumn.

While yet to be confirmed for a specific path on her way to the 2015 Queen Of The Turf Stakes, Neena Rock is likely to contest the classic mares line through the Autumn Carnival; following up the Breeders’ Classic with appearances in the Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m), Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m). is currently offering the best odds on all major races through the 2015 Autumn Carnival!
