Nominations have been released for the 2011 Breeders Classic taking place this Saturday February 12, 2011.
17 horses have been nominated for the 16 horse field, with both More Joyous and Melito being nominated.
The long awaited showdown between these two horses is set to happen, with both horses looking to claim to $175,000 prize money on offer.
However, we will be left wondering if the reigning New South Wales Horse of the Year, Melito, will be a definite starter until final fields are announced tomorrow February 9, 2011.
Melito’s trainer Gerald Ryan is waiting to see how his mare fares in track work today before making a decision about the 2011 Breeders Classic.
“If I don’t think she’s ready for the Breeders she will go to the Triscay Stakes the following week.”
If Gerald Ryan chooses not to run Melito, More Joyous will still have some tough competition from her stablemate Montana Flyer.
Montana Flyer has beaten More Joyous at their last two barrier trials.
Gai Waterhouse, who trains both More Joyous and Montana Flyer, believes both her mares are well in contention for the 2011 Breeders Classic.
“I’m very happy with (More Joyous) and she will go to the Breeders Classic on the 12th of February unless the owner changes his mind,” Ms Waterhouse said.
“Montana Flyer will also run.”
David Pfieffer’s Graceful Anna, Clarry Conners’ Dorf Command and Les Bridge’s Jersey Lily are also amongst the nominations.
