2010 Breeders Classic Won By Alverta

Alverta, trained by Paul Messara, was the winner of the 2010 Breeders Classic at the Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday.
The six-year-old mare was not a dominant favourite for the Group 2 race over 1,200 metres, however beat Montana Flyer by 1-3/4 lengths to take the coveted top spot, from the wide barrier.

It seems Alverta will next run in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile.

It seems Alverta will next run in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) on the 17th of April, while the Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer is eyeing up the possibility of a start in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on the 20th of March.

The Darren Smith-trained Madame Pedrille was grabbing the headlines coming into the 2010 Breeders Classic; however the favourite finished in third.

Another strong contender for the race was the Clarry Conners-trained Court, however was unfortunately scratched from the race.

The seventh race of the day was run alongside the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m), the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes and the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m).
