Odds For The 2010 Breeders Classic

February 12th, 2010

The Challenge Stakes Day is being held at the Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday and one of the highlights of the day is sure to be the running of the 2010 Breeders Classic.

Some of the top mares from around the country are heading to Sydney to compete in the Group 2 race over 1200 metres, with bettors having plenty of strong options.

The strong favourite in the 11 mare line up is Madame Pedrille at $2.90. Starting from the ninth barrier has not deterred her odds of starting favourite, with some strong runs behind her in recent months.

The Clarry Conners trained-Court is another contender to take out the 2010 Breeders Classic at $4.

Strawberry Field and Alverta are two to keep an eye on with odds at $7 and $7.50 respectively.

Starting from the middle fifth barrier, Strawberry Field won the Herald Stakes (1400m) in November last year, proving herself over the middle distance.

Alverta has a disadvantage with the wide barrier, however has had good form in Brisbane recently, and will no doubt provide a solid performance in the 2010 Breeders Classic.

Both starting at $11 are Montana Flyer and Occurrence.

Montana Flyer has the second barrier and was runner up in the Alexandria Handicap (1100m) proving herself over the relevant distance, while the Bart Cummings-trained Occurrence drew the middle sixth barrier.

Rounding out the odds is Emissary. Starting from the seventh barrier the Guy Walter-trained mare would provide the willing bettor a nice sum if she did surprise on Saturday at $81.

The 2010 Breeders Classic is the seventh race of the day kicking off just after 5pm, with the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m), the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) also forming part of the eight-race raceday.
